| Good options when you're practicing is to have a buddy who knows they can do this every time, so if you cock it up the boat can go get yours, and you still have a line up. Other option is double-reeling, where your buddy clips onto the handle of your reel (making sure not to entangle anything while you go) so if cock up any part of it they can just reel off and you'll get your reel back at the surface.
You should also be able to do this alone. ANyone relying on a buddy to inflate something or hold a reel is up the creek the one time they need to do it - alone, in the dark, with no buddy to watch and make you feel better about the whole thing. Sure, sometimes they can help, but don't get into the habit. Too likely you'll lose them IMO, and then you're really on your own. |
