The O-ring is on the reg not the cylinder - you know it's maintained.
The O-ring is trapped, and can't extrude out.
The DIN screwthread is larger, and far more secure.
DIN is be rated upto 300bar, A-clamp to 230bar.
A DIN reg will always fit a DIN cylinder; whereas not all A-clamp regs are compatible with all A-clamp pillar valves.

We only have A-clamp, beacuse it was "here first". Many people with A-clamp later upgrade to DIN, I don't know of anyone who's gone the other way.

If buying new, DIN is the far superior option, and usually at no extra cost.
If you then go diving somewhere with only A-clamp cylinders, buy a converter that attaches to the DIN thread on your regs.
