| Mine are on the front & I have no trouble real trouble getting into them. I think mine seem to be a bit higher than most peoples, as out of the water, I can stand with my hands in them without having to bend over & look like a hunchback! Either that or I have long arms!
Not tried side ones, so can't really say if these are better or not.
One thing you might want to consider is the opening though. Mine have zips & can be a little tricky sometimes. I've seen some people have a velcro 'flap', which seems a lot easier to open.
