| I sort of agree with you here, Darren. All through the hostage thing I couldn't help thinking that sure, it was a great tragedy for the family, but Ken Bigley wasn't exactly Terry Waite. He wasn't there for some great altruistic purpose; some wonderful self-sacrifice for the people of Iraq. He was there because someone offered him a shed load of money to do a job that he wouldn't have got paid half as much for at home. He knew the risks and took a chance. It was greed that got him killed. As I say, a great tragedy for the family and they have my sympathy, but I don't see any reason for the PM to attend to represent us at the funeral. Our soldiers are different. They have no choice but to go and there's no significant financial benefit to them whether they go or not. They do it purely out of duty and those that die deserve the Nation's thanks. That's where our PM should be. Now that might keep him rather busy, which might give him cause to think about kitting our troops out properly.
