| Char are an arctic species which got trapped in some lakes when the water levels changed at the end of the last ice age. How do I know that? I was once hired to shoot some underwater sequences of the char rising to spawn in Ennerdale. It happens on a particular night in November. They rise from the depths and swim up the feeder streams.
However they got their dates wrong and I spent several nights with the director, fisherman Andy Nicholson, and Forestry Commission officials, waiting. I found a slightly inflated Viking drysuit a perfect way to sleep in the open air! |
