| The port used to be called the Fischer connector. Maybe they are now selling enough VR3s that it is cheaper to fit the Fischer connector to all the units. The IR link has been a cause of annoyance for many people and there was a rumour that a wired comms link would be developed.
The unit can occassionaly play up as described, often immediately after a battery change. Removing the battery for 15 minutes will completely reset the unit and clear most of the strange behaviour problems - you will lose the settings and dive history.
I have been diving a VR3 since the first 'brick' model came out. The original model was a little flaky. The reliability has constantly been improved and I have not had a problem in the last 3 years or so. The Windows reference is a little unfair. My DTV box is far less reliable than my VR3 and that is Linux based.
Before giving up you could try taking it along with whatever you were using previously and see how the VR3 performs alongside. |
