The problem you have between a PC and a Laptop is that a PC is often a CRT or other where as the laptop is LCD and they have different settings. Infact PC and MAC have different LCD settings as well. I quite often notice this when showing pics to people off a cd on their PC laptop.
You are right and do have to do colour calibration between camera/computer and especially printer...that one in particular can REALLY drive you mad.
