you do get the odd one that goes a bit mad .

ya get the old battery bounce/weak springs producing a black spot due to arcing on the battery terminal and then they just play up.
i've resorted to a shaped packing piece between the battey and the lid that clamps them firm on the contacts which cured this problem.

I found the best thing for black spots is one of those papermate retractable pencils (the orange ones with the little black rubber) the rubber on the end is perfect for cleaning the contacts.
