Thumbs up Imported post

And not a little ironic that it got named after a Japanese guy, what with that nation's appalling record of whale devastation!

New species of whale found

A new species of whale has been identified by scientists. The 30ft creature is a type of baleen, the family of whales that strain food from seawater, and was found in the Indian Ocean and Sea of Japan.

A new mammal species is a rarity, especially one the size of a whale. The whale was named Balaenoptera omurai in honour of Hideo Omura, the late Japanese whale researcher, it was reported in Nature.
