just remembered a similar thing happened to mr.greekbird's greenforce: he saw a poor dogfish trapped in fishing line so took the handle off his hand(torch is on a handle) whilst freeing the dogfish. result was that torch dangled and got caught in same fishing line ironically. As he tried to swim off it pulled on the cable. After the torch would turn on but as soon as the cable moved it would die...a bit different to you that torch dies after a certain period of time...if it is still under warranty phone them up, or wherever you bought it from and ask?
