Careful handling I do already.
When I noticed the problem, I took the cable off the torch and had a closer look, and was surprised when I realised that the break was on the head-side rather than battery-side, since there is a bend (although its held immobile) at the battery pack. The head is always held in place with a clip when its not in use, never hangs from the cable, and I can't imagine where it might have been to cause any sharp bends in the cable.
I'll be making sure there's something to support the ends of the cable when I get it back - assuming FaMi haven't done something to the design of the cable already of course!
