Thanks for all the messages of support. I suspect posting it was a form of therapy on my own part.
I've been mulling over it since it happened, although am now making an effort to forget about it (having written myself copious notes in case I do get called in to court).

That was partially my intention with the post, I couldn't fault the police at all.

I was sure I hadn't hit him, it may have been early but I was fully awake etc. I thought perhaps I may have clipped him as I went past, rather than hit him full on. I was already going to call the police, but as it looked like he had calmed down (in my mirror) I thought I should check.

My father in law was a fireman before he retired, he has a different view on locking car doors - also deadlocking front doors of houses, but that's a whole other thread of discussion!
