It looks like you are wanting to 'crossover' the diver without the long laborious OW AOW RD route, PADI international in Bristol should be able to help with advice on what grade to cross over at although if you are concerned about buoyancy etc then it might be wise to do a few lesons with the diver to give them the understanding.

I wouldn't have thought a starting from OW would be neccesary as the diver concerned sems like he would know the theory behind diving reasonably well.
