Build quality is shit. They rattle. They are cheap fleet cars.
Score a good long test ride. I have had the focus on rental serval times and no complaint. My mate however recons the seats are hard and uncomfortable. (But he's a VW fan..)
But you ask about the engine. Its a good 'un.
