Well as a Ex Matelot of 15 years I can tell you its gonna take about 6 weeks to rid you of that arrogance...

joining the Navy or any of the Forces is not a job its a commitement to a way of life. If you are entering to it with a view to get out and become a commercial diver I suggest you take a really hard look at yourself and your motivation. Because you are making a mistake, save up 3-4 grand and take the training to be a Commie now before your too old and Too F****ed for anything else especially Commericial diving.

The Navy is neither Glamerous or well paid. It's hard work and 80 hour weeks are not unusual at sea. Pretty much like Commie diving I believe.

Is it a good life? Yup until you want to settle down then its Arse. 3 out of 5 marriages fail and I spent 9 years of the 15 I managed to get through out of the UK.

If you do decide to go for it and get through training without failing and being told you can be a Steward or a painter then come back in a year and let me know how you get on. I can guarantee you will be as cynical as the rest of us and you'll understand what it means to be a Matelot.

Give my regards to Mr Mckewans..
