Didn't realise (after 4 years as a BSAC diver) that BSAC had any specific guidelines / rules / recommendations / whatever to do with diving in pairs or threes. We quite often dive in threes, and not just instructor+buddy pair. Generally if there are enough people for pairs then thats the most common, but I never saw three as a problem. Only time i'd be careful would be three ODs or inexperienced SDs going together, but most others I wouldn't worry about.
