Having owned both and currrently using a old Cherokee I reckon the jury is still out on this. Landrovers are good vehicles but are notoriously unreliable, on the upside parts are plentiful and cheap. Jeeps are just as capable and very reliable but the parts are hard to get and expensive.
Given the choice I would probably say the Jeep edges ahead but there isn't much in it. This is for older ones though, I wouldn't touch either of the current versions with a barge pole.
