| It's a while since I did this, but I think once you have the download from the Tomtom site, there is an executable file which asks you where you want to install the maps.
I think there is a Tomtom folder in the base memory of the PDA which contains a file which tells the software which map is currently in use.
Tomtom have the maps quite tightly tied up with installation codes and machine specific activation codes etc etc, so if you have bought your maps from anyone other than Tomtom this may explain some of the dificulties you are having.
