I went for PADI because it was convenient, I was in Australia, and I had the time. Price wasn't something I considered nor were values and standards. I just wanted to dive. Did some great dives on the course and did three days on a boat on the barrier reef a couple of weeks later as a qualified diver!

I am a big fan of the pick and mix variety of courses. The fact that it is commercial is immaterial to me and isn't a criticism that has any value really. There are no ties to any one PADI school other than what I choose to make and there is a system in place to report poor training practices.

I do plan to look at joining a BSAC club in the near future but for no other reason than a convenient means of doing some more diving.
