| Imported post Hi Pierre,
at a rough guess it sounds like the unit has extra inflator(s) on the counterlungs for plugging in offboard gas on deeper dives.
This is a personal choice thing. I've seen it on a few rigs - personally I don't see the need. The YBOD lumbers me with enough crap around the chest area without me adding extra buttons & hoses! If there's a problem and I have to run the box semi-closed for a long time and empty the onboard dil, I can just unplug the onboard hose from the inflator and plug in the offboard.
There is an argument for flushing out the strong mix diluent you'd use at the bottom with nitrox when you get to a certain depth on your stops (like going from bottom mix to deco mix on OC)- there was quite a big discussion on the Insp list a while ago regarding the practice. There were pros and cons to switching dil, as there are pros and cons to not switching dil.
Up to you in the end. |
