They are incredibly beautiful when they sit opened up like this. Sometimes you have to be very patient and sit still until they do it, if your lucky you come across them just sitting like this on the sea bed. Water movement near them will often make them shut their shells tightly and you have to wait for them to open up again. These particular ones were very comical as every now and then they would suddenly 'take off' making little clouds of sand and silt before coming to rest again so I had to be quite patient.
Fortunately the 'yellow box boys' were far away collecting the ones at about 40m so these guys are still happily sitting in the sand in the sound
