Of course you can - it depends on the limit of elastic deformation of the length of spring you leave clear. So if you set up your springs to avoid line traps by having the hose the full length of the spring it makes it very hard to stretch. If you leave a little bit showing you have to seriously limit the play you have in them and it makes it difficult to get on, and if you leave a nice length so that you don't overstretech the spring whilst having enough play in the string to ge them on quick-as-you-like you could get fatally ensnared in a sneaky bit of line and drown and die and everything
