| if you have a shuttle type system from which your post suggests you do, I would not believe gaming should of been your highest priority but then again kids and the like. either way how many pci card slots will you use?
in most likely hood 1, (I only use one and i use mine for a bit of light gamining and as a tv recorder) most stuff you will be able to get are USB2/Firewire so i should not worry too much unless you have plans for that second slot. ATI (sorry AMD) cards without fans are usually fine, a couple of models lower than the fastest out there should be fine width wise which is what i believe your main concern would be.
