It would certainly be unwise to dive with an unstable retina. I was involved in some experiments looking at diving and retinal injury some years ago and it was an issue however retinal detachment surgery has become both more sophisticated and mainstream in recent years. I wouldn't sell your gear just yet but wait until your retina has been more thoroughly assessed.
