Exclamation The VR3: Extensive Questions & Answers.

During my deco procedures course at the weekend, my untrusty cochran decided to spit its dummy and switch itself off for no apparrent reason . . . never particularly liked the thing anyway.

So, I'm in the market for a new computer.  Although only diving on two nitrox mixes at the moment, I am planning to do normoxic trimix sometime next year before moving onto the box.  Obviously the VR3 seems to do everything and will satisfy short and long term needs.  BUT, they are bloody expensive and I suspect may be far more than I will ever need.  I really don't have any plans to go deeper than 60, and thats long into the future.

The question is, is there a cheaper alternative ?  I had a quick look at the VR2, and although it will hanle both CCR and 4 gasses, it does not appear to handle He.

The only other that I am aware of is the Dive Rite Nitek He, but that seems nearly as much as a VR3!

Can anyone suggest / recommend an alternative or share thoughts on the VR2 / 3 ?

Thanks,

John
