| Hi Sea-M
I wrote a similar thread here a couple of months ago. I've always dived membrane. I'm a classic yo-yo when it comes to weight, fluctuating between 2 sizes.
My LDS were great. I've always dived membrane. But I'd convinced myself it was "cool" to go for neoprene, so that was that. I WANTED neoprene. Guess what I ordered? Yep, another membrane!
The reason? Well, it's more forgiving with my fluctuating weight. A lot more forgiving. I got weighted when I was at my heaviest, and I've lost about a 10pounds since having it fitted. It's not arrived yet, but the bonus for the one I went for was it has a waist band so I can tighten it a bit if I lose and loosen it if I put on! He said with neoprene IF you put on weight it may be too much of a squeeze if I decided to eat all the pies!!!!
My partner (now ex - so a round of aaahhhhhs please!?!!) also ordered a new membrane at the same time, and he'd previously dived a neoprene. He is on the larger size, so he felt the membrane was the better bet.
I also took the advise of someone from here and she concurred with my thoughts which was good enough for me!!! (thanks - you know who you are!)
Just remember it's all down to personal preference. What's good for one isn't necessarily good for another. A membrane with a good undersuit for our lovely cold water diving was my choice and I'm really happy with that decision. Just remember if you swap types you'll need start again with your buoyancy!
Safe diving, and I'm still at Vobster on the 30th so if you can get a buddy it'd great to see you there! |
