How much do we spend on these people?

Call me a right wing nutter if you like but...

I was driving through the less salubrious areas of the east end of Glasgow this afternoon with a buddy from work and it struck us both that we must be spending a fortune on these people. Drink and drugs centres are not thin on the ground ( I passed three in total) and there were seeminglessly endless numbers of young mothers kicking about (many of whom seemed to use taxis as the normal method of travel).

There is a pub on every corner and they seemed busy for a Friday afternoon in an area with very little work.

This raises several issues with regards to taxation:

1. Increased social costs for housing and maintaining those people in it.
2. Increased medical care for drugs and alcohol problems.
3. Reduced incoming from taxation

I am not for one minute suggesting that we pass the co-ordinates to the navy for disposal via Trident, but surely these areas of mass depravation can be dealt with, either by providing a route out that works or more likely punitive removal of benefits for those who fail to make the effort.

And breathe!!
