Well, we had a choice: either send our son to the local state school which is one one the worst schools in Cardiff or pay to send him to the local private school which is one of the best schools, private or state, in Wales.

Or we could have moved into the catchment area of a better state school at a cost far greater than the 8 years of fees we choose to pay.

We're lucky in that we can just about afford to pay the fees. Others have to put up with the lottery that the state educational system offers, or attend church for a couple of months in order to get the local vicar/priest to back up their application for the local church school.
