| UB38 is going for a sail after 65 years!! To All UKSON Members,
The message below has been received from Capt Duncan Glass at Trinity House with a request to promulgate via UKSON.
The wreck of UB38 lies at a charted swept depth of 23 metres South of the Varne bank and is considered a danger to Navigation in light of deep draft tankers transiting the SW bound lane of the Dover Strait TSS.
Trinity House, in accordance with it's statutory duty have taken possession of the wreck.
The preferred option to resolve this danger to navigation was to dredge and resettle the wreck in situ. In pursuit of this plan a detailed site investigation survey has been carried out, The results of the survey have dictated that the nature of the seabed in this location is such that the dredge and resettle option is prohibitive.
As a consequence of the above the relocation of the wreck into deeper water is now necessary and this operation can only be undertaken with calm conditions. It has therefore been decided to delay this operation to Spring 2008 to ensure that risks are minimised.
Prior to commencement of the operations, Maritime Stakeholders will be advised and Notices to Mariners issued as appropriate.
