Couldn't agree more.

There's far too many Police officers driving around in cars with horse blinkers on and not integrating with the community. A lot of valuable intelligence can be gathered by walking the beat and talking to the public. (in my opinion).

Correct me if I'm wrong but...... In the good old days officers carried out several weeks of training, some of it in force and some of it at a Police training college. During this time they had a chance to speak to officers within other force areas and share experiences and information. They normally didn't get to drive Police vehicles until they'd served a bit of time gaining experience with a tutor constable and patrolling an area on foot. By it's very nature this form of training made better officers. Nowadays I understand that due to financial reasons Dorset Police Officers now carry out all their training in force and are handed a set of car keys at the earliest opportunity.

Unfortunately the majority of the general public don't see what really goes on within the Police Service and are blissfully ignorant of the failings.

Each officer that struggles with poor equipment, lack of support, lack of time, manpower etc.... and does the job properly no matter what, should be commended. However, by doing so they are in fact damaging society in the long run. As long as the people at the top can see on paper that the job is being done, they'll never do anything to change the situation.

The general public need to report every offence they witness, however petty and the Police need to record it, in order to give the Government an accurate picture of what's happening within society. The "I can't be bothered to report it, the Police won't do anything" attitude won't change things.

The Police Officers on the ground also need to report failings at every opportunity rather than struggle on regardless. It's about time MPs and Senior Police Officers earned their pay and we as UK citizens got the service we deserve.

Thanks for listening.
