Apeks DS4 with XTX40 on a 2m hose for primary DV
XTX40 on a standard hose (not 'octo' or yellow)

Also does this mean that 'if' I progress to a twinset then I'll just need to purchase a second DS4?
What you've listed certainly works well and also provides a sensible and logical upgrade path if and when you decide to move to a twinset. If you're looking to follow the DIR path then don't forget to also include a mineral glass pressure guage connected via a 24" HP hose. I'd personally recommend the 63mm DIRZone guage that Knackers sells - I have about 6 of these and they're great! Link here...

DIRZONE SPG 63 200 bar, Gauges at divingniknaks 0121 707 5783. Frog, Dirzone, Agir Brokk Scuba Diving Gear

re: the length of backup reg hoses. I personally favour 22" for Scubapro 1st stages and 24" for Apeks 1st stages...
