Having taken a second look at Clare's knot, it's not the one I use but very similar. Mine's just a clove hitch with a bight for a release and is a bit less complicated. I might post up some pictures if anyone's the least bit interested
This only works with rope though. I usually carry a length of rope around in my dive kit for those occasions when I get on a boat and am offered lengths of bungy to tied my gear up with. What's all that about? Smudge - are you listening?
