Actually it isn't. Its tied on with cave line. The orings end up rotting and breaking just when you don't want them too. PITA. Cave line is better and cuts easy with a knife.

George et al used to do the O ring thing because they wanted a breakaway for rebreathers (as your buddy will want your bailout and it would be clipped off. The ONLY time you can't donate from your mouth) but I understand they have stopped doing that now probably for the reason given above.
