The problem I had with this was that this person called in to work at around 4pm on Friday to say they could not get home from London for their Saturday shift at work the next morning. Considering they missed their train, it wasn't cancelled, and they had just had two weeks holiday over Xmas, I thought it unreasonable not to make more of an effort. They had chosen to go to London and should have made sure they could get back in time, the train problems did not happen just that day. They also said it was unsafe to wait for a later train and the journey time was 6 hours, which would get them into Liverpool after 1am. This is a 19 year old who regularly goes out in Liverpool clubbing to the early hours, so I'm not really convinced of this either, but safely is relative so I won't make an issue of it.
I just think she is too blasé about the whole thing and could not be bothered making more of an effort, she was not in the least apologetic, just very righteous. She could have got an earlier train or changed somewhere, she could even have got an early Saturday train and been late, she just chose not to.
What would you do with them? Is it her responsibility to get to work, especially at a peak time when she let the rest of her crew down?
