Don't mean to sound flipant - however, Have you done a proper weight check and reduced you lead to the correct level? and - have you practiced boyancy regularly? and - is your profile and swimming technique horizontal and "floaty" without having to "cycle" to stay in one place?

Basic stuff but you would be amazed the no. of people who either don't bother or just forgot.
