The moral of the story is that you should not write something off if you have not tried to use it as intended (remember the DIVE Eclipse wing article

). The hose length is perfect but you are not supposed to be able to read it while the SPG is stowed on the left hip d-ring. You should unclip it then bring it out in front of you to read it.
The hose length is fine even when using stages.
