The problem with the jetstreams is that they are an upstream design, they will fail shut in the event of a LP seat failure. Also, they use a non standard hose fitting, they have a ridiculously high IP (12bar?), you can't take them to pieces without special tools and they are very expensive and rather difficult to set-up.
They do have a reputation as something of a "tech" reg, but this is somewhat outdated now. They were probably quite a good deep air reg (due to the high IP) in their time but regs like the diaphragm apex and piston scubapro first stages are just as good in terms of their work of breathing (when using the correct gasses).
From the DIR perspective, we all use apex or scubapro which are completely interchangeable. I have scubapro 2nds on Apex 1sts and we can swap and change. That's important when in a team environment. We detune the 1sts and get the same WOB at depth as we get shallow because we use helium at depth. The jetstreams achieve this another way.
I'm sure many of you with jetstreams think they are great, but this was posted on the DIR forum........
