I am interested to know how you go about deploying a dSMB from a spool rather than a reel without ending up with a birds nest. I have not ever tried, but notice many DIR divers carry a spool as a back up to a main reel.

Also, can you use a homemade spool (i.e an old reel barrel) or have the dedicated ones got anything special about them.
