I went to Rottnest years ago before I was diving. Did a lot of snorkelling though.
Near the harbour there wasn't a great deal to see but a bit further out (not too far) there was a plethora of wildlife including a ray of some sort (sorry not the best description but I didn't have the same interest back then as I do now nor did I have a camera
