| As far as I know there is no way to regress back to XP once you've upgraded. I have read that technically it is possible but involves lots of very complex file work which, from your 'I'm not that clever' comment, would be beyond your cabability (with all due respect!)
Assuming that you have backed up your personal files (you have, haven't you?) the best solution is to put your original XP cd in the drive, boot from it and run a clean install after deleting the Vista install. Once complete, restore your backups and you should be good to go.
