| Dab Is Dead - Long Live Internet Radio! I bought a new toy yesterday, and I am now as happy as a happy thing in happy land!
I've been looking at internet radio for a while, and decided to buy a tuner (well sort of, I suppose you would call it a "client" device) for my hifi when they were cheap. I've bid on a few on eBay but never won the auction. Anyway, I was in Currys Digital on Saturday, using up time before going to the theatre. I went for a nose about the internet radio section, where I found a Logik IRMA-1 - the one I've been bidding on - for £35. I think they are stopping selling them, it could be clearance stock? Anyway, it's fab, not only is it an internet radio, it's also a music streamer so I can play music from the hard drive of this PC through my big hifi.
But the internet radio thing sort of makes CD's irrelevant - I've spent a good few hours scanning around different internet radio stations and found loads, whatever kind of mood I could be in, there is music to suit it!
Shame it won't work in the car, or anywhere with a secure network (unless you know the WEP or WPA key), but as this is for my home hifi and it's about 6 feet from the router, it's fine by me! I've also got a 20mb connection that is pretty much rock solid, with no download cap - at 192kbps a few hours listening might push you towards some of the smaller capped limits that are out there on ADSL broadband.
