I wouldn't bother with the extra convenience zip, but I would get the p valve fitted. The method you describe will work ok but probably not the best solution.

Keeping hydrated is a good idea to avoid DCS and with the p valve you don't have to worry about holding it in holding it in either on the surface or during the dive. The extra "hassle" is ok really.

Seaskin are fitting the Halcyon p valve which is very good if expensive. Oxycheque do a cheaper one as does Nackers.

Having looked at the seaskin at the weekend it does look a nice piece of kit and if I would to buy another drysuit would probably get one (fitted with the halcyon p valve).
