Me too. I suspect that the total light output may be similar but the HID will be more focused. So with a HID you get a narrow bright spot. With the LED you get a wider, not quite as bright beam.
Being a sceptical sort I assumed Dive Rite withdrew their 10Watt handheld HID about the same time as they launched their 500 lumen LED because someone said 'we ain't going to sell that at that price with the LED on the market.'
If they really were that different why stop selling the HID?
