Can anyone HELP please.

I have set up my laptop to use my netgear router to access the internet, the desktop is connected to the router by cable. I wist to be able to share files, and printers, but i dont seem to be able to get them to talk. I tried the microsoft set up network but that didnt work.
Im using XP service pack 2 with Norton internet security.
I had it set up previously but have since reformatted both machines, and cant remember for the life of me how to do it, as a very kind technical guy at Netgear told me what to do. However having spent the last 35 minutes on hold, i was told thay now dont support file share.

Any help would be most welcome. Green available.
