It's a NiMH battery. You should not let it discharge completely, and can top it up as often as you like. I've had mine for going on 3 years and I store it in a cool dry place (discharges slower in colder temperatures) and if I am not diving I recharge it fully every 3 weeks or so. So far, the battery has lost none of its charge and the burn time is the same as new.
