Personally, I would generally rather go on the boat for the day rather than a shuttle. It's much more relaxed. You get there early enough to put your own shot in where you want and there aren't time pressures if you want to do a longer dive.

However, at this time of year, it's handy to just be able to book a couple of you on a boat to do harbour stuff without worrying about getting enough people together. That's been an option for years in Portland/Weymouth, but it's not there at the moment.
