I didn't get along with the standard strap either.
Can't remember where I saw the idea for the mod I did but it involves a piece of black guttering cut to size. 3 cable ties and some 5mm bungee that I continual looped but knotted such that either bungee could snap and my VR would still be on my arm !
Easy to put on even with thick gloves, more secure, needs no adjustment but can be easily done if need be. Simply move the bungee knots up or down depending on wet / drysuit use (tip - don't do them up too tight!)
