Support divers are there in case things go wrong - in addition to prudent gas planning in the first place. They lug stages around a bit to make the task easier for the gas divers and in this instance take empties away. There need not be a corralation between helping someone out in water and reliance. We plan ocean dives on a basis of carrying everything we need - but in water support just makes life nicer. It is supposed to be fun after all. |
I have to agree.
Whilst we don't have the luxury of actual support divers we prefer to use an ascent line and deco station for much the same reason. Your surrounded by divers who have gas and can help out.
I hated it at first but i would prefer not to do 70m+ without it now.
Its a nice feeling and as Clare said its supposed to be fun after all.
