| You can leave the webbing in one piece and have a QR
Rather than having a break in your harness webbing and using an AP or Fastex type QR clip you can use a robust metal weight-belt clip which allows you to release a 6" loop when required. This much slack in the webbing allows you to easily wriggle out of the harness, the clip is almost bomb-proof (unlike plastic clips that don't respond well to having a twinset on top of them) and if you forget to retighten the slack loop then your harness will still stay on your back.
Clip is best mounted at the bottom of one of the chest straps where it will be out of the way. To fit, you will need to feed the webbing through the clip slots such that you can then pull a loop through the hinge-end of the clip and then close clip to secure loop.
And to protect myself from some flaming ... there is no need for QR's if you are shore / cave or hardboat diving but QR's are a god-send if you are diving from a RIB when you routinely need to get out of your harness in the water when boat is moving every-which-way and typically the cox want's you out of the water PDQ so they can be elsewhere (pub, slip or possibly even picking up other divers)
