I think the trend for Jetfins has been around long before DIR. It was just called Hogarthian. When we were doing our Cave course in Mexico, I would say that the vast majority of people were in backplate and wings, five d-rings, jetfins, spg on the left, hog-wrapped primary, etc etc etc. But a small minority of these were DIR.

I have a pair of quattros and a pair of jetfins. The quattros are definitely much faster and more powerful, but the jetfins are slightly more manoeverable. I don't swim fast these days so I'm quite happy with the Jetfins.
